Prambanan Temple

Prambanan is the largest Hindu temple located in Indonesia and precisely located on the border of Sleman regency of Yogyakarta province and Klaten district of Central Java. This temple was built in 850 AD by between two persons namely, Rakai Pikatan (second King of the Mataram kingdom I) or Balitung Maha Sambu in the Sanjaya. But the temple is no longer used and then abandoned.
Then in 1733 rediscovered by a Dutch man named CA. Lons, and in 1855 a man named Jan Willem IJzerman started to clean up and move some rocks at the temple. But in the years 1902-1903 Theodoor van Erp start again maintain the parts of the temple which had almost collapsed. And in the years 1918-1926 temple treatment was followed by Bureau of Archaeological (Oudheidkundige Dienst) under PJ Perquin with a more systematic way and bermetode. The predecessor that we have seen before have been doing demolition and remove the stones of the temple with no thought to do the maintenance and restoration of the temple that has such historical value. And in 1926 the business was continued by De Haan until his death in 1930. And in 1931 was replaced by Ir.Van Romondt until the year 1942 and later that became chairman / head of the renovation was given to the son of the Indonesian nation itself until 1993.
In this restoration, which lost the original stone was replaced using new stone. Due to the original stone is lost or stolen to be reused elsewhere. Temple will be restored if the original stones found on the site is still 75% of its authenticity. And since 1991, Prambanan temple is a protected historical site by UNESCO. So even in situations of war, historical sites is not allowed to be disturbed existence and authenticity.
This temple complex consists of 8 main temples and more laborers are 250 small temples. The three main temples are named Trisakti dedicated to the the Trimurti: Shiva Batara the Destroyer, Vishnu the Preserver and Batara Batara Brahmin creator. The main temple has a height of up to 47 m, and is the largest temple in southeast asia.
This temple is also known as Roro Jonggrang temple In the temple walls there are many temple reliefs and statues that have their meanings.
On May 27, 2006, there was a massive earthquake that shook Yogyakarta and Central Java with the power of 6.2 on the Richter scale. Prambanan suffered damage from the quake, especially the Brahma Temple complex.
